With the first part of this program, dog training classes, well underway, the second part of the program is now available to the public: a lending library of training and behavior resources. The Pet Training and Behavior Library consists of over 50 items, including books, videos, CDs, and DVDs, and is housed at the Adoption Center. This library offers materials by a variety of highly esteemed trainers and animal behaviorists, all of whom utilize humane training methods. All materials are recommended by the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and/or certified dog trainers and behaviorists. Both adopters and the public are welcome to utilize this resource. A deposit is required from the borrower, and items can be checked out for 3 days to 2 weeks, depending on their type. Included topics include general dog training and behavior, as well as specific but not unusual behavioral and training challenges, such as separation anxiety, barking, digging, chewing, aggression, and housetraining issues; dealing with households of multiple dogs, or those with kids and pets; cat behavior and issues; and more. A full list of available items can be seen below. The intention of this library is to help to round out the resources available to Jackson Hole pet owners who need assistance solving both basic and advanced pet behavior issues. This, in turn, should help to keep adopted pets in new homes, improve people's relationships with their pets, and help build a community of well-behaved and trained animals that are a pleasure to encounter!
