We welcome volunteers!
Without volunteers the Animal Adoption Center could not exist. They are
the backbone of this organization. We understand most people have busy,
full lives, and have modeled our volunteer program around this. You can
volunteer as much or as little as you'd like - we have volunteers who help
daily, weekly and only for special events. We would like volunteers to do
what it is they enjoy to the best of their abilities.
Volunteer programs include: Kitty City care, dog walking, foster care,
animal shuttling and special events, as well as media, fundraising and
computer assistance. Volunteers in all capacities play a crucial role in
caring for, learning about and then getting our homeless animals adopted
into qualified, loving homes.
You can make a difference in the life of an abandoned animal. At the
Adoption Center we welcome and appreciate your participation! Below is an
overview of some of our volunteer possibilities. For more information and
to sign up, please stop by and see us at 175 North Glenwood St.
Kitty City Care
Volunteers clean cat apartments, feed, water, groom and play with the
lovable cats. Volunteers report their observations on the cats'
temperaments and health.
Dog Walking
The dogs at the Center receive daily walks in their "Adopt Me" vests in
order to be seen around own and on the trails. Walks with volunteers are
an opportunity for the dogs to be socialized, exercised and to receive
training.
Foster Care
Foster families care for the dogs waiting adoption when the center is not
open. Foster families also transport the dogs to and from the Center so
the public may meet them during the Center's hours of operation. Foster
homes allow the dogs to learn to be comfortable in homes and enables us to
learn about the animals' individual personalities. An overnight bag is
provided for each dog with everything needed to care for our orphans.
Media Campaign
Community members can help with radio advertising, newspaper ads, and
television commercials. Volunteers can even star in commercials, and local
businesses can sponsor ads.
Office Assistance
Volunteers can help with the many tasks around the office necessary to
keep the Center running smoothly.
Drivers
We welcome volunteer drivers to pick up animals from regional shelters.
Fundraising Committee
The newest way for adults to get involved is to join the AAC fundraising
committee. We recognize that many of the people in this community who care
greatly about this organization have creative ideas and resources that can
help the AAC continue to achieve its goals. The group will meet once a
week to brainstorm fundraising ideas, plan projects, and assign
responsibilities.
The Kids Volunteer Program
Beginning May 2006, the youth volunteer program coordinates youth ages
12-17 interested in animals, the Center, and its mission. Meeting twice
weekly, kids can sign up for a variety of activities, and learn about
animal rescue and the responsiblities of pet ownership while helping the
Center with projects.
