Honoring Dell!
We wanted to take a minute to honor our great friend, Dell from Community Entry Services. Dell works here at the Animal Adoption Center every weekday morning and does a great job. He is wonderful with all of our four-legged friends and helps keep their home here at the center a happy and clean place to be. Thank You Dell for everything you do at the Animal Adoption Center!!!!
Community Entry Services (CES) has been dedicated to empowering individuals with developmental disabilities and brain injuries within Wyoming and here in Jackson since 1975. Located in four areas within the state (Riverton, Lander, Casper, and Jackson), the overall mission of the organization remains the same throughout: to promote independence and community integration. One of the most natural ways to support that mission is through client employment. As a result of job placements, our clients gain meaningful work experience and financial support. Simultaneously, both employers and customers are exposed to how adults with disabilities - when provided accommodations, yet high expectations - can be productive contributors to their places of work and communities.
Each CES client in Jackson is employed to some degree within the community. Delford, an Animal Adoption Center employee since May 2005, is one of those clients. Del started his job as many of our clients do – with the support of a CES job coach and wages funded by the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR). Potential employers are given the option of this trial work experience to see if a client would be a good match. Del has followed the path we hope all of our clients take – to eventually learn his job well enough to no longer need a job coach and to become independently hired by the Animal Adoption Center. He now works five days/week, three hours/day, as a consistent, productive employee. Besides keeping the Center clean, he also brings a positive energy and smile with him everyday.
If you’d like more information about CES, give us a call (733.7637) or visit our website (www.ces-usa.com). If you are interested in offering work experience to one of our clients, contact our Vocational Coordinator at eklasen@ces-usa.com.

Training with Judit Arroyo was a success!
Judit Arroyo, a renowned Chicago dog trainer, visited the AAC at the beginning of May. She spent an entire Saturday holding training lessons for dog owners in the community. It was a hit! Everyone really enjoyed working with her. Judit also loved her time in Jackson. She commented on how happy and healthy the dogs here are! Thank you Judit for working with the dogs in our area and making them even happier!
 Adopt Sesi Today!
Sesi is a gorgeous 5 year old collie mix. Look into her eyes, and you will know right away that she is yearning for a forever home. Our volunteer dog walkers absolutely love taking her for a hike because she is excellent off leash. She is also so much fun to watch playing in water. She gets along with all dogs and even loves cats. This beauty needs a loving and active home. Come meet her today!
 Recycled Dogs?! Earth Day Celebration
The Jackson Whole Grocer will be having an Earth Day Celebration on April 25th!! We are going to be there with our dogs to show off how we like to reduce, reuse and recycle! This event will start at 11AM and the fun continues until 4PM. They will have live music, food, beverages and several informational booths. We are also looking for volunteers to help show off our animals at this event so please contact us if you are interested!! Happy Earth Day!!!
Sunshine Pre-School visitors!!
We recently had a great group of 15, 2-4 year olds that came to visit our center. Bette, our volunteer coordinator organized an hour where she went to their school and spoke to them about responsible pet ownership. Then, she brought them over to visit kitty city. The kids and the animals both had a blast and we have pictures to prove it!
If you are interested in organizing something similar, we would love to get more youth involved in animal welfare, please call 307.739.1881, or email (adopt@animaladoptioncenter.org).
a note to our adopters !!!
If you have any pictures of dogs and cats you've adopted from us with you and your family we'd love to share them on our walls in the center! Please bring them or send them and we will put them up!! Thanks so much! Also be sure to stay in touch, we love keeping up with our adopters!!
Come support the Targhee Animal Shelter!
 Wanted Paws
Wanted Paws, a division of the Animal Guardian Network in AZ, has partnered with the Animal Adoption Center to bring smaller homeless dogs to Jackson for adoption. If there is a particular small breed or breed mix that you are hoping to adopt please contact sandy@animalguardiannetwork.org or the Animal Adoption Center for more details. We are all working together towards the same goal, finding the right pet for you, while providing a safe and loving home for an animal in need. Together we are all making a difference.
 Attention Fabulous Fosters
We want to give a special thanks to all our foster parents. We have had a lot of success with our foster program lately. It has been quite a while since a dog has had to spend the night at the Animal Adoption Center. We couldn't have accomplished this great run without our active fosters.
We also want to remind all our fosters to return the overnight bags, kennels, leashes, and harnesses each morning. All these items are tools that help our dogs succeed in their foster homes. The harnesses and kennels are especially expensive to replace. Anyone with extra kennels or harnesses are encouraged to donate.
THANK YOU FOSTERS!
Friendly Wildlife Reminder
Our local wildlife are on the move. They are out and about enjoying the warmer weather as much as we are. Be more aware of them while you are out with your dogs. Also, Coyotes are in the middle of their mating season. They are much more active these days and can be seen hunting during the day time. Stay aware and respect the wildlife while out with your dogs.
Animal Supplies needed!
If anyone has any extra leashes, harnesses, bones or bigger crates our doggies are demanding them! Our dogs love going home with bones and hanging out at the center chomping on them! As for leashes and harnesses, we are running very low! If anyone has any of ours from the past, please bring them by and if you have any extra, our dogs would smile to see them!
Lastly, we have been waiting and searching for a stool for the boutique desk. We have been searching browse-n-buy often and have not yet found one, if anyone sees one, please let us know!
Thanks a bunch,
The animals, staff and volunteers at the AAC

 Help Staff the AAC Boutique!
The Animal Adoption Center is a little under staffed right now. We are in great need for volunteers to help us staff the Boutique and do light office work. It's easy to do and our customers and other volunteers are always fun to help. Since it is the off season, I am sure that many of you find yourself with extra time. Please consider donating your time to the AAC. The store is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11am to 6pm. Please call us at 739-1881 to let us know when you can help out. A few hours here and there are a huge help to us!
Give the gift of life
Want to share your love of animals with an orphan? Or perhaps you are looking for the perfect present for an animal lover...
Sponsor an animal awaiting adoption!
By sponsoring an AAC orphan while he or she awaits adoption at the Center you can help provide an animals food, housing, and medical care. Sponsoring an animal in the name of someone you love makes a wonderful gift, too! You pick which animal you would like to sponsor, and in turn you will receive a photo of your chosen rescue and a certificate of thanks for your gift of love! This holiday season, photos will come as a holiday ornament. Sponsorships are $50.
Become a rescue’s angel!
Want to ensure a safe trip and a healthy future for a rescued animal? By becoming a rescue angel you can! For a one time donation of $150 per animal, you will be helping provide for transport, vaccinations, and the spaying or neutering of an AAC new arrival. Angels receive a photo and detailed description of their chosen orphan, as well as acknowledgement on our website. Make a difference in the life of an abandoned animal! AAC Angelic status can even be christened upon your animal-loving friends - a great gift for someone who already has everything…including enough pets of their own!
You can give the gift of love in many forms…
General donations to the AAC of any kind can be made as gifts as well, acknowledged with a certificate of heartfelt appreciation from all the orphans awaiting their forever homes at the Center. You can make a donation not only as a gift, but also in memory of a beloved pet or person. For customized gift requests, be sure to give us a call! We will
be happy to work with you.
All gifts to the Center are tax-deductible.
Making a Difference
Each day kids come into the Animal Adoption Center excited and thrilled to be around the animals. We are thrilled that kids at such a young age are understanding the importance of proper animal care and compassion. Here are just a few people we would like to thank in making a difference to the animals:
The Animal Adoption Center would like to thank the Wildlife Film Festival for bringing their Photography Youth Camp to the AAC. The young photographers did an excellent job capturing the images of our orphans. The day after the photo shoot, the camp presented us with posters of the animals and discs full of photos. You can see some of their artwork in local coffee shops advertising the animals that are up for adoption.
Another successful event was the Forth of July. We had about nine kids that took on the responsibility of walking the dogs in the town parade. Some of the kids passed out candy while others passed out tennis balls with our logo. One little girl passed brochures out while saying, "Adopt an Animal, Save a Life!” To us, that was a very powerful phrase to hear a young kid say.
So this is a specific thank you to all the kids that help the animals at the center. We appreciate everything you do for us and the animals.
Help the orphans while you're online!
You can earn money for the orphans at the AAC by simply...searching on the Internet?
Yes!
AAC is now a registered charity with GoodSearch.
GoodSearch provides all Internet users with an easy way to donate to their favorite charities without ever having to tap into their own finances.
It's easy ... every time you search the Internet at GoodSearch.com, and select the Animal Adoption Center as your chosen charity, GoodSearch will donate to us!
Then, search the Internet just like you normally would — the site is powered by Yahoo!, so you'll get the same good search results you're used to.
GoodSearch is a search engine with a unique social mission which involves generously giving back to charity with every Web search. Their goal is to direct 50 percent of revenues to nonprofits chosen by users. All funds come from advertising revenues - there are no user fees!
It is estimated that each Web search will generate approximately a penny for the designated charity. It doesn't seem like much, but if you think about how many times you search the Internet every day, every week, each year, it quickly adds up! And the more you and other people use GoodSearch, the more money will be directed towards the orphans. There is no cap on how much money GoodSearch will direct to charity.
So tell everyone you know - GoodSearch does not do much advertising - and get searching! Our orphans will appreciate it!
PAWS now offering FREE Spay/Neuter Vouchers!!
For more info about pet overpopulation, and some other great reasons why you should spay or neuter your pets, click here
In February 2007, PAWS launched its Spay/Neuter Voucher Program for residents of Teton County, WY. Everyone was eligible for some level of financial support. Each voucher had a specific value depending on the type of service and on the income level of the pet owner.
And now, in 2008, PAWS has just announced they will begin offering FREE Spay & Neuter Vouchers in 2008 to everyone in Teton County, WY. This new "no questions asked” program would not have been possible without the collaboration of all of our local veterinarians, including:
Animal Care Clinic
Fish Creek Vet Clinic
Jackson Hole Vet Clinic
Spring Creek Animal Hospital
Teton Vet Clinic
This is absolutely fantastic news for both owned and homeless animals throughout Jackson Hole and beyond. With over 6 million abandoned animals being euthanized in shelters every year simply due to overcrowding, the single most important thing you can do is to spay or neuter your pets!!
Please talk to these vets today about the program or call PAWS for your FREE voucher at 307-734-2441! To learn more about the program you can also visit pawsofjh.org
We're looking for volunteers!
Without volunteers the Animal Adoption Center could not exist. They are the backbone of this organization. We understand most people have busy, full lives, and have modeled our volunteer program around this. You can volunteer as much or as little as you'd like - we have volunteers who help daily, weekly and only for special events. We would like volunteers to do what it is they enjoy to the best of their abilities.
Volunteer programs include: Kitty City care, dog walking, foster care, animal shuttling and special event assistance.
Volunteers can also work in the Animal Adoption Center boutique, and help out with the animals! Volunteers in all capacities play a crucial role in caring for, learning about and then getting our homeless animals adopted into qualified, loving homes.
You can make a difference in the life of an abandoned animal. At the Adoption Center we welcome and appreciate your participation! Come see us at 175 N Glenwood for more information.
Send us your stories!
Adopters...there have been hundreds of you, but each of you has your own wonderful story to tell. We want your stories!! We've had unbelievable tales of dogs surviving against the odds, and then ending up in happy, loving homes. We've had cats recover from neglect and, with new owners and tender lovin' care, let their funny and heart-warming personalities shine!!
To read some of our success stories, go to the "Who We Are" page, and then click on "Success Stories." You'll get some great laughs, maybe shed some tears, and you'll definitely want to help more animals find happy, healthy homes!
